Lennel qualified in medicine in 1994 from the University of the West Indies in his home country of Trinidad. He came to the UK for postgraduate training in orthopaedics in 1996 and was a BST and HST in the East of England. He did his spinal training in Ipswich, Norwich, and Brisbane.
Lennel was awarded the Walter Mercer gold medal for the FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2004 and has been a consultant orthopaedic spinal surgeon at Norwich since 2006. He joined the board of examiners for the FRCS (Tr and Orth) in 2019 and became Education Lead for the British Association of Spinal Surgeons in 2022.
