Jemima Collins

Clinical Associate Professor, Nottingham

Jemima is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Care of Older People. In her previous role as a post-doctorate Academic Clinical Lecturer, she developed an interest in clinical research in ageing populations with chronic pain. She is currently leading two grants exploring pain phenotyping and the experience of pain, in people living with dementia. Further work in this portfolio will include observational and interventional studies in pain in people living with frailty. Clinically, Jemima is a Consultant Geriatrician at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

Karen Hertz

Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Trauma and orthopaedic directorate, Specialised Surgery Division, University Hospital of North Midlands, Royal Stoke University Hospital

Karen is a registered nurse currently working in an advanced practice role in trauma and orthopaedics. She has an interest in trauma orthopaedics, fragility fracture management, and the impact of fractures on older people. She has been an active member of the Fragility Fracture Network since its inception and is currently FFN President Elect as well as being actively involved in nursing and orthogeriatric education.

Karen has been involved in the development of the National Hip Fracture Database in the UK and was a guideline group member for NICE Clinical Guideline 124 ‘Hip Fracture: Management’. She has published many journal papers, clinical guidelines and book chapters. She also co-edited ‘Fragility Fracture Nursing. Holistic care and Management of the Orthogeriatric Patient’ (2018) and, more recently, the second edition; ‘Fragility Fracture and orthogeriatric Nursing’ (2024). She is a series editor for Springer book series ‘Perspectives in Nursing Management and Care of Older Adults’.

Julie Santy Tomlinson

Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Nursing, Odense University Hospitals/University of Southern Denmark

Julie is a registered nurse, now retired. She had a clinical career in orthopaedic and trauma nursing, working in nursing education and research later in her career. Here areas of expertise are fragility fractures, orthopaedic and trauma care, care of older people, wound management, pressure injury prevention, and professional ethics. She has published widely across the fields of nursing, orthopaedic and trauma care, and the care of older people. She has been a passionate FFN (Fragility Fracture Network) activist since the organisation’s early days and has been involved in various projects relating to nursing, orthogeriatric care, and education. She is coming towards the end of service as FFN General Secretary from 2022 to 2024. She has authored, co-authored and edited several nursing books, inlcuding both the first and second editions of ‘Fragility Fracture and Orthogeriatric Nursing. Holistic Care and Management of the Fragility Fracture and Orthogeriatric Patient’ (2024), alongside Karen Hertz. She has recently retired from her role as Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Orthopaedic and Trauma Nursing.
