BOA Session
Radiation exposure: How we ensure orthopaedics is a safe working environment
Co-Chairs: Lynn Hutchings, Professor Deborah Eastwood
Ionising radiation use forms a critical part of surgical practice for most orthopaedic surgeons. Recently, increasing concerns have been expressed about the risks involved and the lack of available data, which has understandably caused some unease within the orthopaedic workforce.
It is imperative that orthopaedics is a safe working environment for all, and this session aims to review the current evidence, outline the work being performed in this area by BOTA and the BOA, and look at future prospects. Most importantly, we need to hear the concerns of the workforce. This session allows time to discuss and encourage working with other agencies to ensure our safety.
