Chris Walker

Chris is a consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. He trained at hospitals in London and Merseyside, undertaking a three centre USA Foot Fellowship to Dr Roger Mann, Dr Sigvard T Hansen Jr. and Dr Mark Myerson prior to his appointment to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. He focused on trauma and foot and ankle surgery, undertaking an Ilizarov Senior Fellowship at the Ilizarov Institute, Kurgan, Russia. He subsequently worked closely with the Limb Reconstruction Unit in Liverpool, using both external and internal fixation techniques for deformity correction around the foot and ankle including a substantial neuropathic foot practice.
Over his career, Chris developed a comprehensive foot and ankle service for Liverpool with an extensive tertiary referral practice from across the UK. He has been active in the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and was Chairman of the Scientific Committee, member of Council, President from 2007 to 2008 and a Director of the Society up until 2013.
Chris has always been a keen educator, building a dynamic team over the years, and the unit was jointly designated a Centre of Excellence for foot and ankle surgery with international surgeons visiting to observe and discuss surgery. He ran a BOFAS registered senior fellowship for surgeons and lectures at national and international meetings, particularly on Charcot neuroarthropathy and trauma of the foot and ankle.
Chris continues to work part time at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, enjoying the rest of his time repairing and racing a 125 year old sailing boat, cycling and travelling.
