Orthopaedic CPD Accreditation
The British Orthopaedic Association recognises that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events provide learning opportunities which play a key part in surgeons’ revalidation. Following a review of accreditation activities within the BOA it was agreed that there was a desire to ensure that orthopaedic educational activities provide a high quality learning experience for those who participate and that the process for considering and awarding CPD is effective and makes the best use of resources. To achieve this the British Orthopaedic Association and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) have agreed, from 1 January 2019, to jointly accredit CPD activities.
The accreditation process will be run through the RCS Quality Assurance team who will be responsible for the process of accreditation, verifying the quality of the educational event and checking participants’ comments and level of satisfaction.
The benefits of the accreditation process will include:
- Review by leading surgeons and recommendations on quality enhancement
- The award of CPD points
- Use of the strap line ‘Accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Orthopaedic Association for up to x number of CPD points’
- Listing on the RCS Accreditation Portal
- Listing on the Intercollegiate Surgeons Portfolio Listing in RCS Bulletin
Organisations who would like to apply for CPD accreditation of their event can apply for RCS/BOA CPD accreditation through the RCS accreditation portal.
