2025 New Year Honours
Two BOA members, Graeme Groom and Stephen Mannion have been appointed as Companions in the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the New Year Honours 2025.
Graeme Groom CMG is a founding member of the Circular Frame Users Group (now British Limb Reconstruction Society) and has given his time and expertise to performing trauma surgery, limb reconstruction, and systematic training of doctors in conflict and disaster areas, notably on over 40 occasions in Gaza, in the past decade.
Stephen Mannion CMG is the founder of Feet First and has provided treatment in disaster and war zones around the world on a voluntary basis for over three decades.
Instituted in 1818, the honour was originally bestowed solely upon those in high positions in the Mediterranean, the Order of St Michael and St George now recognises service in a foreign country, or in relation to foreign and Commonwealth affairs. The Motto of the Order is ‘Auspicium Melioris Aevi’ – ‘Token of a better age’.
Rachel Yates MBE, Director of Clinical Improvement at GIRFT received her MBE for her contribution in establishing and developing GIRFT.
