Practising in the Independent Sector
The BOA membership includes surgeons who do practice in the IS and those who do not. It is recognised that many patients now have their orthopaedic surgery performed within the IS, either privately funded or as part of NHS initiatives. This situation is likely to increase as a consequence of the delays caused by Covid. Thus, there are a number of issues that will be relevant to BOA members and as importantly to their patients.
The BOA is a member of FIPO (Federation of Independent Practitioner Organisations) and also engages specifically with the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN).
We have information about both available in this section of the website:
- A 2024 PHIN update can be read here.
- A 2023 PHIN update can be read here.
- We have a Council member who leads our engagement with PHIN and FIPO, currently Andrew Manktelow. His synopsis of recent developments is available here.
- We have a page about PHIN that particularly relates to the early developments and establishment of the PHIN process and data publication.
