This conference focuses on falls prevention and management in older people with a focus on ensuring effective and resilient falls prevention activity. The conference will update delegates on the New World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management in Older Adults and highlight the impact of the pandemic on older people and falls prevention. Sessions throughout the day will focus on activity and falls, developing falls prevention and healthy ageing, understanding human factors in falls prevention, meeting the psychological needs of those who have fallen or are at risk of falls, improving falls education and awareness, effective personalised multidisciplinary assessment, reducing falls on the ward, falls and mental health including delirium prevention, medication management and improving secondary prevention.

This important and timely conference will focus on improving care for hip fracture patients – learning from the NHFD findings, and improving progress against the Key Performance Indicators and NICE quality standard for hip fracture. Through national updates and practical cases studies the conference will highlight best practice in hip fracture care, improving the care pathway and outcomes. This conference will focus on improving assessment, minimised delays to theatre, improving the pathway from falls to theatre changing the role of the emergency department, ensuring hip fracture patients are prioritised for surgery, overcoming contra indications, improving the anaesthetic and surgical pathway, and ensuring prompt mobilisation after surgery. Hands-on training course, teaching the strategies and skills needed to manage severely injured patients with life-threatening musculoskeletal injuries, often in challenging and time-critical circumstances.

This course is an intensive two day hands on practical cadaveric workshop for surgeons, military or civilians who are relatively inexperienced in trauma but may be required to perform surgery on patients suffering traumatic injuries under pressure in a trauma and emergency environment.

This flagship 6-day course covers all the topics required for the basic science examination. It is for orthopaedic trainees who are seeking a strong foundation in basic orthopaedic sciences and for those trainees who will be preparing for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examinations. Faculty are from Oswestry and other nationally-recognised orthopaedic centres and delegates attend from all over the world.
