BOA Annual Congress 2025

Is there a gap in your surgical leadership skills? Do you need to demonstrate leadership capabilities to CCT? The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh offers a comprehensive and structured approach to developing surgical leadership skills. Our "Personal and Relational Leadership," module addresses individual growth and team dynamics, which are essential in surgical settings. Including a live virtual session and a Learning Log with recorded lectures and activities provides flexibility for participants to engage with the material at their own pace while still having opportunities for interactive learning and bespoke feedback. Our convenors Lisa Hadfield-Law and Humphrey Scott, bring credibility and expertise to the programme. A masterclass in Femoral Fragility Trauma is an opportunity for knowledge exchange on surgical techniques, optimisation of frail patients, perioperative management, post-op rehab, and secondary prevention. It can also address new guidelines and evidence based data regarding management of post operative complications such as Prosthetic Joint Infection and Periprosthetic Fractures.

In line with this vision, the APKASS 2026 will feature a diverse range of sessions, including joint-specific discussions on Knee, Shoulder, Hip & Pelvis, Foot & Ankle, Wrist & Elbow, and Spine. Attendees can expect in-depth insights into orthopedic research, encompassing arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and sports medicine. The scientific program will include Plenary and Keynote Lectures, ICL Sessions, Free Paper Presentations, and Poster Exhibitions, providing plentiful opportunities for knowledge exchange. This year marks our inaugural Live Surgery Symposium, and we will also hold combined sessions with international organizations such as ISAKOS, SLARD, ASSOM, ESSKA, AFSM, and ICRS facilitating collaboration with global experts.

This course is designed to facilitate the surgeon with didactic and hands on cadaveric training experience. Conducted by a faculty of experienced surgeons, this is an intensive one day course of lectures, debate, exchange and practical hands on experience on Orthopaedics procedures using a Stryker MAKO Robot.

This course is designed for individuals preparing for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent examinations. Over the past 18 years, the course programme has been refined to comprehensively cover the entire syllabus, focusing on basic science and pathophysiology. It includes a series of lectures and interactive sessions spread over two days, addressing key topics such as tribology, biomechanics, pathophysiology, statistics, and microbiology, essential for both the written and oral exams. A significant component of the course is dedicated to viva practice, offering candidates approximately 6 hours of practice with experienced faculty, along with personalised feedback.
