COVID-19 and Wellbeing
The BOA is very aware that the COVID-19 situation can cause stress and anxiety for health professionals. The wellbeing of our members and wider colleagues is an important issue for us at this difficult time. In December 2020 we held a webinar Coping with COVID: Supporting surgeons through the challenges of the Covid era.
The participants in the webinar have kindly provided either a short slideset or write-up now published in the Transient Journal, to provide some useful nuggets of ideas for others to use.
- Musings of a ‘Wellbeing Newbie’ by Tony Clayson
- Supporting Doctors by Joanna Maggs
- Post Burnout by Ben Caesar
- SAK (Showing Acts of Kindness) and POW (Pearls of Wisdom) by Raju Ramesh
This BMJ article also addresses some crucial points regarding the mental and physical impact on trainees.
The following resources are also available to support frontline health professionals, and we would encourage you to take up these services if you feel the need:
- Frontline19 (Frontline19 is a FREE independent, confidential and UK based nationwide service delivering psychological support to people working on the frontline).
- https://people.nhs.uk/help (A phoneline is available 7am-11pm, seven days a week, and text service available 24/7).
