T&O Research and SAS Surgeons: How Do They Fit?

We are pleased to announce next in the series of BOA webinars for SAS Orthopaedic surgeons:

Date: 21st January 2025
Time: 18:30

National leaders with international reputations in T&O Research have set out to explain and answer questions from SAS colleagues about options and opportunities to get involved in the research that influences our clinical practice.

Ms Ines LH Reichert FRCS (Tr & Orth) MD PhD from King's College Hospital has experience in developing a Research Team in a busy hospital and setting up inter-departmental projects. She has an interest in basic science relevant to clinical problems and is President-Elect of the British Orthopaedic Research Society (BORS).

Professor X Griffin PhD, FRCS (Tr&Orth) has lead and published a number of National and International Clinical Trials, as well as delivering powerful reviews of current evidence, that modified and sometimes changed significantly our day-to-day clinical care.

They will be supported by Mr Y Kulikov PhD, MRCS, FEBOT who helped to develop modern methodology for Surgical Clinical Trials and continues to encourage clinical practice improvement and innovation. All three are members of the BOA Research Committee. Our BOA Council SAS member Mr A Bawa will be available to support and share his experience.

Please, get your questions ready to email in advance to [email protected] or post in the chat during the webinar.'

Trauma & Ortho Portfolio Pathway (TOPP): Collecting Evidence

Collecting the documentation to support your portfolio pathway process can be one of the most difficult parts of the process. This webinar specifically focusses on the practicalities of collecting evidence, such as how to create, store, & reformat your application’s supporting.

Our speakers, Rickaz Raheem & Renol Koshy, are both consultant surgeons who have come through the CESR process and have a detailed knowledge of how to collate and present your evidence. Mr Raheem is the co-chair of the Intercollegiate Surgical Education Committee for SAS and Non-consultant doctors and Mr Koshy is leading the Portfolio Support Group on the committee. They are both experienced and motivated in supporting SAS/LED’s.

Chair: Julie Craig, SAS representative on BOA Education and Careers Committee
Speakers: Rickaz Raheem and Renol Koshy

This webinar was recorded on 29th October 2024

The Porfolio Pathway

From 30th November 2023, the new portfolio pathway replaced the CESR route to the specialist register. Applicants will no longer have to demonstrate equivalence to the UK curriculum. The new requirement is to demonstrate that applicants possess the 'knowledge, skills and experience' to be on the specialist register.

Find out what this means for you at the BOA webinar on the new portfolio pathway and specialty specific guidance for T&O.

Chair: Akshdeep Bawa, SAS representative to BOA Council
Co-Chair: Julie Craig, SAS representative on BOA Education and Careers Committee
