UK and Ireland In-Training Examination (UKITE) Editorial Roles

The BOA is seeking Editors to contribute to the authoring and editing process of questions for the UK and Ireland In-Training Examination (UKITE). The editorial team is key to ensuring that high quality questions are available for the exam, through the question development, review and validation processes.

There are vacancies for the role of:

UKITE Editor (all sub-specialties)

UKITE Question Writing Editors are primarily responsible for the authoring and editing of questions for the annual UKITE. Key responsibilities include:

· Reviewing and editing questions within your allocated sub-specialty topics.

· Authoring new questions in line with best practice guidance.

· Submitting questions for review by the Lead Specialty Editor for the relevant sub-specialty.

· Collaborating with the UKITE Clinical Lead, Lead Specialty Editors, and fellow Editors to ensure the quality of questions.

Person specification

· Preferably post-FRCS surgeons (within the last three years), including SAS surgeons and trainees. 

· Must have a license to practice.

· Demonstrated expertise and interest in the sub-specialty for which they will be editing questions.

· Active BOA membership.

· Not currently enlisted on the question writing panel for FRCS T&O.

Time commitment

The role demands a commitment to author and edit approximately 3-5 questions a month, with a particular focus from June to November, leading up to the annual UKITE sitting. While the majority of work occurs through the BOA online question writing platform, no routine face-to-face meetings are required. There is an opportunity to meet other editors at the annual planning meeting as well as lunch at BOA Congress. Appointments are for a period of three years.

In future years, the opportunity may arise to become a lead editor for your chosen subspecialty, taking responsibility for overseeing the quality control and exam question delivery for your area of expertise.
